Meeting with representatives of Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia

  Director of Resource Mobilization, at the International Potato Center (CIP) – Pietro Turilli, Resource Mobilization Specialist – Elisabeth Ullman, and International Potato Center Regional in Leader Central Asia and the Caucasus – Rusudan Mdivani met with Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Georgia – Iuri Nozadze. The discussion held about existing collaboration between International Potato Center and The Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia. Director of Scientific-research Centre of Agriculture – Levan Ujmajuridze has also met the delegation. Key points highlighted during the meeting were: production and enhancing of harvesting of types of seed potatoes resistant to diseases, which will help country in term of food safety.

     The meeting with Deputy Ministers of Agriculture of Adjara – Sulkhan Motskobili and Mamuka Turmanidze, also, Head of Adjara Scientific – Consulting Center of Georgia – Zaur Putkaradze was held in Adjara. Basic topics of the meeting were perspectives of sweet potato introduction in Georgia, especially in Adjara.

     Guests visited the demonstration bases of Jigaura and Tsilkani of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture. Research division of plant micro-clonal reproduction (in vitro) and virus free planting materials was also introduced to guests, where 76 clones of potatoes received from CIP are being tasted.  

     Next visit of the CIP representatives was related to existing project – “Enhancing Rural Livelihoods in Georgia: Introducing Integrated Seed Health Approaches to Local Potato Seed Systems”. Guests visited demonstrational parts of Kazbegi.
